Comics lets you turn your Characters and Personas into multi-page comic stories, right in the Character.ai app. This guide covers where to find it, how to create and improve your pages, and how to publish to the Feed.
A comic is a fully illustrated page of panels — art, dialogue, sound effects — starring any Characters or Personas you choose. Describe a moment, pick an art style, and Comics turns it into a page. Add more pages to build a longer story, then publish the whole thing to the Feed for the community to read.
Comics are available now on the Character.ai mobile app.
Where to find Comics
- Open the Character.ai app.
- Tap the + button in the middle of the bottom navigation bar.
- Select Comic from the creation menu.
Choose your actors
When the comic creator opens, two actors are already filled in: the Character you chatted with most recently, and your active Persona. They appear as tags in the premise at the bottom of the screen.
To change them:
- Tap an @actor tag in the premise. The actor selection screen opens.
- Your current actors sit at the top — tap the X on one to remove it.
- Pick replacements from the Character or Persona list, or search for one.
- Tap Save.
A comic can have one or two actors, in any combination of Characters and Personas.
Write your premise
The premise is a short description of what happens in your comic. Comics writes one for you automatically, based on your recent chats with the selected Character.
If there's no chat history — for example, when both actors are Characters — it draws on the Character and Persona definitions to invent a premise that fits them.
- Want a different idea? Tap the dice icon to get a new suggestion.
- Want to write your own? Tap the text box and edit the premise, or start from scratch.
Specs: up to 500 characters.
Note: changing actors doesn't update the premise on its own. After swapping actors, tap the dice to get a suggestion that fits the new pair.
Pick a style
- Tap the art palette icon in the bottom-left corner.
- Choose a style: Japanese, American, Black & White, or Chibi.
Tip: you're not limited to the preset styles. Describe a style in your premise and Comics follows your description instead of the preset. Try experimenting with variants like "watercolor style comic," "pencil sketch style," "noir comic with heavy shadows," "retro newspaper strip," or "pixel art comic.” You can even blend genres, like “black and white manga, chibi style, monochrome” to see what happens!
Generate your page
Tap Generate in the bottom-right corner. Generating a page uses Charms; the current cost is shown on the Generate button.
If something looks off — a misplaced speech bubble, garbled text — tap Re-gen to try again. A fresh generation usually fixes it.
Your Re-gens are always saved — you can scroll up and down between Re-gens in the Comics editor, so you never lose any older Comic pages you Re-gen’ed. You can select the generation you like best for posting and showing in your Gallery.
Note: Re-gen creates a brand-new page, so it uses Charms the same way Generate does.
You don’t need to wait around. Generations happen in the background, and you can always find your Comics in the Gallery tab if you decide to do something else, or start another Comic generation at the same time.
Page options
Once a page has rendered, tap the ⋯ menu in the top-right of the page for more options:
- Rate (👍 / 👎) — tell us how the page turned out, so we can make Comics better in the future
- Download — save the page image to your device
- Report — report inappropriate content
- Delete this page — remove the current page from your comic
Add more pages
Comics don't have to stop at one page.
- Tap the blue + button on the right edge of the canvas.
- Comics generates a follow-up page that continues your story.
- Repeat to build a longer story.
When you publish, all pages publish together as a single comic that readers swipe through.
Your drafts are saved automatically
Leaving the editor? Tap the X in the top-left corner — your progress saves to your Gallery automatically.
To pick a comic back up:
- Tap the chat bubble icon in the bottom navigation bar to head to your Chats page.
- Tap Gallery at the top of the screen.
- Tap the Comic tab.
- Tap any saved comic to keep editing, delete pages, or publish it.
Note: Before jumping into editing a comic, you can also choose to delete, download, or report the entire collection of pages at once using the ⋯ menu.
Publish your comic
- From the editor or your Gallery, tap Publish.
- Add a caption for your post.
- Tap Post.
Your comic appears on the Community Feed, and all your published comics are collected under the Comics tab on your Profile. Multi-page comics are scrollable for anyone visiting the Feed or your Profile.
Reading comics — and meeting the cast
Tap any comic on the Feed or a Profile to open it full-screen, then swipe to move between pages.
At the bottom of the comic, you’ll see the featured Character’s avatars. Tapping a Character's avatar opens their profile, so you can start chatting with them straight from the comic.
