If we take action on something you created — like removing or restricting a Character, Post, Scene, or Voice for violating our Community Guidelines — you can appeal the decision and have it reviewed a second time. An appeal sends your case to a different reviewer than the one who made the original decision.
We know moderation isn't perfect, and context matters. Appeals give you a direct path to have a decision reconsidered by a different reviewer than the one who made the original call.
How it works: When we take a moderation action, we'll email you. Reply to that email explaining why you think the decision should be reconsidered, and we'll open your appeal automatically. You'll get a confirmation right away, and we aim to reach a decision within 24 hours. If your appeal is approved, we'll restore your content. Each item can be appealed once, and the appeal decision is final.
EU users: You retain your rights under the EU Digital Services Act. In addition to the process above, you can contest a moderation decision by emailing appeals@character.ai, and you may refer a disputed decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. See our EU Digital Services Act article for more.
We built this to make moderation fairer and more transparent. Thanks for helping keep the community a good place to be.
