What happens to my personal data during age verification?
Character.AI does not collect or store any personal data submitted during age verification. All submissions are handled entirely by Persona, our trusted third-party identity assurance partner.
What does Persona collect?
Most users will only need to complete a selfie — no ID required. A government-issued ID is only requested as a final step if Persona is unable to confirm your age from the selfie alone.
Is my data safe?
Persona is a reputable provider used by companies like LinkedIn, OpenAI, Block, and Etsy. Any biometric data or ID submitted is automatically and permanently deleted within 7 days. Character.AI does not have access to your submissions at any point.
Do I need to submit a deletion request?
No — deletion is automatic. You do not need to contact us to have your data removed. If you submitted a selfie or government ID during age verification, that information is permanently deleted by Persona within 7 days without any action required on your part.
