You built it. You tested it. You refined the Definition until the voice held up across dozens of conversations. Now put it where people can find it.
The best Characters on Character.ai didn't grow in private. They grew because someone hit publish, shared them with the community, and let real users do what test chats can't — surprise the Character, push it into situations the creator never imagined, and come back for more. Going public is how a Character stops being yours and starts being everyone's.
Visibility options
When you publish a Character, you choose who can interact with them:
Public — Anyone on Character.ai can discover and chat with your Character. This is where your Character reaches its full audience. Public Characters appear in search, on discovery pages, and anywhere users browse. If you've put in the work to build and refine your Character, public is where that work pays off.
Unlisted — Only people with a direct link can access your Character. Useful for sharing with a specific group, testing with friends before a wider launch, or Characters built for a particular audience.
Private — Only you can see and chat with your Character. The right choice while you're still building, testing, and iterating. Keep a Character private until it's ready — then let it go.
You can change visibility any time from the Character's settings page. A common workflow: start private while you're developing, switch to unlisted for feedback from people you trust, then go public when the Character is holding together. The community isn't going anywhere — but your Character gets better every day you spend refining it before launch.
The Community
Discord
The official Character.ai Discord is where the creator community lives between sessions. If you're serious about building Characters, this is where you learn fastest — from other creators who've already solved the problem you're stuck on.
The channels that matter most for creators:
#character-share — Post your public Characters here. This is the widest audience outside the in-app discovery feed and a great way to get your first wave of users.
#character-creators — Build questions, technique swaps, feedback requests. This is the room where creators talk shop.
#announcements — Platform updates, new features, and anything c.ai wants you to know first. Worth checking before you assume something changed with your Character.
#feedback and #feature-requests — Where to flag platform issues or pitch something the creation flow is missing.
#chat-feed — Share conversations with your Characters. Good for showcasing what a Character can do in the wild and seeing how other creators approach theirs.

Linking your account and unlocking (c.ai+) channels
You can link your Character.ai account to Discord to unlock verified-only channels, exclusive roles, and badges. If you're a (c.ai+) subscriber, linking also gives you access to a dedicated support channel.
To link: go to Settings on the Character.ai website, tap the Discord icon labeled Go to community, then choose Link account and join. Account linking is currently only available on the web — not in the app.
The Community Feed
The in-app Community Feed is another surface for sharing your work. Post Introduction Videos, highlight standout conversations, or share a new Character launch. The feed rewards consistency — creators who show up regularly build recognition faster than those who post once and disappear.

Once a Character is public, anyone can find it. Build with that in mind.
